The Necessary Baseball Equipment
As far the weather is conducive, you will see many people coming out to play baseball, especially the young ones. Kids like participating in baseball practice and games. If you would like to be part of this fun, you need to get yourself the right equipment. This game cannot be played if you do not have certain equipment with you. There are also some other accessories that make it worthwhile. You will get some of these equipment from you school or club. But most of it you will need to shop for yourself.
You need to buy a baseball glove. You will choose the glove to buy when you decide which position you intend to play. Those who play more than one position is usually required to have more than one kind of glove. Normally, the outfielder’s gloves shall be larger than those of the infielder players. The smaller size of their gloves is to allow them to remove the ball faster. The first basemen and catchers wear mitts, instead of gloves. You can expect the first baseman’s mitt to be longer with one side flat. The catcher’s mitt is round and adequately padded, to make it possible for them to stop a fast moving ball.
You need to have a bat too. You will be buying yourself a bat so that you can practice more often. There are wooden and aluminum bats. For aluminum bats, check first whether your league allows for them. You will tell its size when you look at the written length and weight on it. You need to check how well it feel in your hands when it comes time to buy. You should not strain just to swing it.
You need to ensure you have invested in cleats as well. Normally, you will not be allowed to wear metal of spiked cleats until high school competition. You therefore need to invest in a pair of rubber spiked cleats that are comfortable to wear.
You also need to invest in a baseball cap. Your uniform would be otherwise incomplete. You will get plenty of them, each fitting differently, and most of them adjustable, as you need it to be.
You may also need to buy a catcher’s gear. It is normally expensive, and supplied by the league or club. To ensure those how play the catcher’s position are comfortable, they need to buy their own. It needs to at least have the shin guards, chest protector, mask, throat guard, and mitt.
You may also wish to get yourself some batting gloves, a protective cup, practice balls, a batting tee and pitching target, or you practice your pitching and hitting form.
