When you try to launch POS or register with it, you get the QuickBooks POS Invalid Product Number QB Error 176109 issue. The number 176109 may appear in the error message or state that you have an invalid product code or number. You’re likely having problems with the POS product code you’re using. However, some files may have become faulty and are unable to authenticate the product code you provide.
The first step in resolving a problem is to figure out what’s causing it. It also aids in preventing the problem from recurring.
The Most Common Causes of QuickBooks POS Invalid Product Number
- You are using the incorrect QuickBooks POS product key. Following the installation of QuickBooks POS, you will be asked to register the product using the product key to authenticate it. It’s how QuickBooks knows you’re an authorized user and that your copy of QuickBooks POS is up to date. If you enter the erroneous product key, the system will display an error message, and you will be unable to complete the registration procedure.
- The POS entitlement folder is corrupted or missing. Corrupt authentication files could cause the issue if confirming your product code runs via a collection of corrupt files. Even if you enter the correct product code, it will happen. If you’ve double-checked that you’re using the right product code, you might be dealing with faulty files that prevent you from registering with QuickBooks POS or give you an error when you try to run it after you’ve completed the registration.
- You’re using a Windows account that doesn’t have administrator privileges. Many of QuickBooks POS’s functions need reading or writing to files stored on your Windows computer. You won’t utilize QuickBooks POS effectively unless you have admin privileges, and you’ll get the QuickBooks POS Invalid number problem whenever you try to execute any task that requires admin permissions.

You can use the following solutions to correct the issue if you keep these three reasons in mind. If none of these suggestions work, you should contact QuickBooks to validate your product code and have a professional investigate the issue. The first step is to double-check that you’ve entered your product code correctly. If this is the case, follow the steps below to find a solution:
1. Delete the Entitlement Client Folder’s Contents
If you have the correct product code, the problem is almost always in the Entitlement folder. The files may be corrupted or missing. To fix the problem, we delete the files in this folder and have QuickBooks create it again. To delete the Entitlement Client folder, follow these steps:
- Close QuickBooks as well as any other QuickBooks-related software on your computer. To open Windows Explorer on your computer, press and hold the Windows button and the letter’ E.’
- It’s conceivable that your computer’s Program Data files are hidden, so go to the View tab at the top and check the box labeled “Hidden objects.” Proceed to the next step without making any modifications if the box is already checked.
- In Windows Explorer, copy and paste the following URL into the address bar:
- Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8 and press Enter
- Delete everything in this folder. To select all the files in a folder at once, press and hold ‘Ctrl’+’A’ simultaneously. Then, on your keyboard, press Delete and confirm your action to delete the files.
- QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale should be launched. It will recreate the Entitlement Client Folder for you and fix any issues you might have had with corrupt files in the last folder. Complete the registration process and verify that the mistake has been resolved.
2. Rename the WS Activity file
- Close all QuickBooks programs that are currently active on your desktop.
- To open the Windows Explorer window, press and hold ‘Windows’ and ‘E’ simultaneously.
- Copy and paste the following address into Windows Explorer’s address bar: Data\Intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale XX\Ini. And press Enter.
- Find a file called WSActivity and rename it to ‘OLDWSACTIVITY. You can save this name by clicking anywhere on the screen.
- To delete the Entitlement Client folder again, close the window and repeat the procedures from solution 1.
- After deleting the Client Entitlement folder, restart QuickBooks desktop. QuickBooks Desktop POS will create a new WSActivity file and an Entitlement Client folder when it first launches. The goal is to start anew with these two files to avoid faulty files that may prevent the validation of product codes. Check if the problem has been resolved by registering with your product code.
If the problem persists, you should contact Intuit to see if you have a valid product code. The last option for resolving this issue is to uninstall and reinstall QuickBooks Desktop POS.
All existing files will be deleted, and a fresh installation may be necessary to resolve corrupt files and directories issues. However, this is a difficult step that necessitates a certain level of technical expertise. You should only attempt this step if you are confident in your ability to navigate Windows and uninstall or reinstall programs.
3. Install QuickBooks Point of Sale from scratch.
Note: Before attempting a clean install, make sure you have a backup of your data and a download file or CD for reinstalling QuickBooks Point of Sale on hand. It would help if you also had all of the license numbers needed to authenticate your items; otherwise, you will be unable to continue. It’s critical that you log in as an administrator to the computer so that you may read and write files.
- On your computer, close all QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale apps.
- Go to the control panel by clicking on the Windows icon. You can use the search box next to the Windows icon to look for the control panel and then hit Enter.
- Depending on your computer’s displaying icons on the control panel, click Programs / Programs and Features.
- The following screen will automatically fill with all of the programs installed on your computer. Uninstall QuickBooks Point of Sale by searching for it. To complete the uninstallation, follow the prompts.
- Save the data folder from the point of sale to your desktop. Add OLD to the end of the file to rename it.
- Replace the word old in the names of all point-of-sale folders. This will ensure that the existing directories do not cause problems when you reinstall the software. These folders can be found in the following locations:
- Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX
- Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks POS XX
- Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8
- Desktop Point of Sale 18.0
- Point of Sale on a Computer To open Windows Explorer, press and hold Windows and ‘E’ simultaneously. Then, one by one, type these folder locations into the address bar. On these locations, rename the POS folders.
- Additionally, you must delete the QuickBooks Desktop POS user account that has been created on your computer. Click on User Accounts in the Control Panel. Then choose Manage Other Accounts from the drop-down menu. Continue to locate a list of user accounts on your computer by selecting Continue. Select QBPOSDBSrvUser from the drop-down menu and like ‘Delete the account.’ Confirm what you’ve done. Restart your computer after the account has been deleted.
- Install QuickBooks Desktop POS on your computer and restore your company file. Check if the error has been repaired by logging in to QuickBooks Desktop POS. Close the point of sale and reopen it to see if any errors have been shown. (Note: if you could not create a backup of your company file, you can restore it using the qbpos.DB file from the point of sale desktop folder, which you had previously saved and renamed.)
